Liverpool injury update: Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexander Isak, Cody Gakpo latest news and return dates

Liverpool are still sweating on the fitness of Dominik Szoboszlai , Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo ahead of their Premier League game against Brentford.

The Reds face a tough trip to west London on Saturday afternoon to face an in-form Bees side who remain unbeaten in the top-flight this season under Keith Andrews and currently occupy fourth spot.

It is a tricky game in which to try and respond quickly to last weekend’s 3-0 home loss to Manchester City , in which Ryan Gravenberch’s controversial second-half dismissal proved so costly at a hostile Anfield in what was City’s first game since they were found guilty by an independent commission of all of their charges related to serious breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules over a nine-season period between 2009/10 and 2017/18. City deny any wrongdoing and have launched an appeal .

Gravenberch was free to play in Wednesday’s 6-3 thrashing of Austrian side LASK Linz in Austria, but will serve a one-match suspension against Brentford , adding to Andoni Iraola’s headache as he remains uncertain of the availability of Szoboszlai, Isak and Gakpo, all of whom missed the last two matches with injuries sustained during the extended three-week international break.

Here is all the latest Liverpool injury news and return dates during a busy period for Liverpool, with their game at Brentford followed by four consecutive home fixtures against Villarreal, Brighton, Chelsea and Arsenal.

No injury to Szoboszlai was reported in the build-up to Liverpool’s game against City, though fears over his absence grew after he - along with Alexis Mac Allister - was not spotted with the rest of the squad outside their team hotel on the morning of the match.

While Mac Allister ended up starting and playing the full 90 minutes, fellow midfielder Szoboszlai was not involved at all due to what Iraola revealed ahead of kick-off was a tight hamstring caused by an overload which he had tried to push through in training.

The Hungarian international did not travel to Austria in the Champions League, though Iraola is hoping that he could play some part against Brentford, which would be a huge boost with Gravenberch now banned. If not, then 19-year-old Trey Nyoni seems likely to retain his place.

“It’s early for us to say, we have still tomorrow’s training,” Iraola said of Szoboszlai, Isak and Gakpo on Thursday . “Obviously, they were not ready for last night [against LASK].

“We have to wait and see.
