Gatwick Express - live: Airport trains suspended after fire erupts by tracks in Croydon

Travellers headed to Gatwick Airport have been warned to expect major delays after a fire erupted next to railway tracks.

Gatwick Express services have been suspended because of the blaze burning next to the track at East Croydon .

A post from Gatwick Express on X said: "Due to a fire next to the track at East Croydon...Gatwick Express services will be suspended until further notice."

The news comes after earlier reports of a massive house fire in Addiscombe Road, Croydon, which is next to the train tracks.

The news of rail disruptions comes after earlier reports of a fire nearby which saw eight fire engines and 60 firefighters to Addiscombe Road in Croydon close to East Croydon station.

London Fire Brigade says the blaze has now been brought under control at the house where the roof has been destroyed.

It stated: "Half of the ground and first floors of a two-storey, derelict, detached house were damaged by fire and the roof was destroyed."

And added: "The Brigade's Control Officers took the first of four calls to the fire at 0432 and sent crews from Woodside, Croydon, Forest Hill, Beckenham and surrounding fire stations to the scene. The fire was under control by 0653.
