Arrest warrant issued for wife of off-duty Massachusetts cop found dead in home

Search crews closed off several public areas as they combed for clues.

Police said Friday they issued an arrest warrant for the still at-large wife of an off-duty Worcester, Massachusetts police officer who was found dead inside a home earlier in the week.

Search crews, which included the police and U.S. Marshals service, suspended their fourth day of operations Friday evening trying to find Karen Solomon, 58, in connection with the death of her husband Worcester PD Patrolman Kurt Solomon, 57.

Worcester Police Chief Paul Saucier said at a news conference Friday that an arrest warrant on a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon with serious bodily injury was issued for Karen Solomon, who he said was considered armed and dangerous.

Kurt Solomon, a 31-year police veteran and father of two, was found dead inside a home early Tuesday morning.

Karen Solomon is the founder of First HELP, a first responder suicide prevention non-profit. The group helps officers dealing with mental health situations and raises awareness for suicide prevention for first responders and their families.

Saucier would not go into more details about Kurt Solomon's death but said that the nature of his injures was a "sharp object." He added that Kurt Solomon's service weapon was not missing.

Surveillance cameras captured Karen Solomon walking on the street after the incident, according to police.

Saucier said that crews used helicopters, divers, sonar and dogs during their search of Coes Reservoir.

Several public areas near the reservoir, including parks, were closed indefinitely as search crews plan to continue their operations Saturday morning, Saucier said.

Anyone who sees Karen Solomon is asked to contact Worcester Police by texting 274637 or calling 508-799-8606.
