Dolls Are a Girl’s Best Friend: New Marilyn Monroe Barbie Lands at Mattel

Barbie has officially released its new Marilyn Monroe Collector Doll, and it’s available to shop online today. Up for grabs at retailers like Walmart and Amazon, the doll is dressed in the same pink gown Monroe wore for her iconic role in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes . Her hair is styled in her signature Old Hollywood curls, and, of course, matching gloves complete the look.

While Barbie has launched various Marilyn Monroe dolls over the years, this one is extra special. According to the brand, the latest collector doll honors Monroe’s 100th birthday , which would have been in June. The release was also created in collaboration with the Marilyn Monroe Estate, per the official description.

“Barbie has a rich history of celebrating Marilyn Monroe’s legendary style as both a fashion icon and beloved actress. As we celebrate her 100th birthday, we designed this doll as an homage to Marilyn, drawing inspiration from the pink satin gown and dazzling diamonds she wore in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes . More than a tribute to this unforgettable look, we are honoring Marilyn as a pioneer — a savvy producer, a businesswoman, and a boundary-breaking artist — and this doll celebrates the totality of her incredible legacy,” said Robert Best, Vice President, Dolls Design Creative Director, Mattel, in a release.

Although Marilyn Monroe died in 1962, her star has never dimmed. She has been memorialized throughout the years in film, music, TV shows, musicals, and, of course, merch.
