Gas stations may be hiding some of America's most overlooked affordable fast-food options

Some may shy away from the thought of getting a meal at a gas station or convenience store, but doing so could be an easy—and surprisingly delicious—way to save money while on a road trip or during a daily commute.

Restaurant menu prices rose 0.3% in both July and August this year, and menu prices were 3.4% higher this August than in August 2025, the National Restaurant Association reported in September.

"Gas stations with quick service attached to them like 7Eleven, am/pm, etc. are the real value now," a Reddit user said in a recent thread , "Everything has shifted upwards.

Fast food is now fast casual pricing.

Fast casual is now sit down restaurant pricing." FAST-FOOD DRIVE-THRUS TOOK OVER AMERICAN MORNINGS FOR THESE KEY REASONS Amid these increases, finding inexpensive and convenient dining options might be challenging, but it’s not impossible.

Here are a few convenience store and gas station chains offering tasty, budget-friendly meals and snacks, ranging from a $5 half-foot-long sub sandwich to a $9.99 box filled to the brim with Southern comfort food.

New Jersey-based gas station and convenience chain QuickChek has more than 160 locations across New Jersey and parts of New York.

Six-inch subs and sandwiches cost $5 a piece, while a $4 breakfast combo includes an English muffin or croissant breakfast sandwich and a 20-ounce hot coffee or energy drink , according to the website.

Headquartered in Pennsylvania, Wawa serves coffee, a variety of breakfast items, snacks and freshly made sandwiches.

The chain earned the top spot in the American Customer Satisfaction Index’s 2024 convenience store ranking primarily due to the chain’s food offerings, especially its hoagies .

A classic Italian hoagie on a six-inch roll costs $6.29, while a breakfast meal including a breakfast sandwich, a hash brown and a coffee or fountain drink costs $5, according to the Wawa website.

Since its founding in 1982, Beaver-themed gas station chain Buc-ee’s has developed a reputation for affordable gas prices, logo-adorned merchandise, and its extensive food offerings.

The lower gas prices are mainly due to the fact that customers are expected to spend more money inside the store, Yahoo Finance reported in June.
