‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ Will Soon Be on Disney+ Where It Always Belonged

The Mandalorian and Grogu wasn’t an outright box-office flop , but it also wasn’t the juggernaut that Star Wars films tend to be. Its box office shortcomings were further emphasized by the fact that it hit theaters when low-budget horror film Obsession was ramping up its meteoric profits . But even more than its “meh” money matters , The Mandalorian and Grogu felt like it made zero cultural impact—truly shocking for the first Star Wars movie to hit theaters in seven years.

Part of the problem could be that Star Wars has spent those seven years building out its small-screen presence. The Mandalorian was the first live-action Star Wars series to hit Disney+, a platform that would soon be full of offerings in both animation and live-action, with Andor in particular elevating the franchise to new creative heights . So when The Mandalorian and Grogu was announced as the next Star Wars feature after quite a few other movie projects were said to be in the works, fans were excited, but also… why not just make a fourth season of The Mandalorian ?

You can approximate that experience very soon when The Mandalorian and Grogu hits Disney+. It was already available digitally, and a physical release arrives later in August . But starting September 2, it’ll be streaming where it all began, alongside all the other Star Wars TV shows that The Mandalorian ‘s success helped bring into existence.

Directed by Jon Favreau and co-written by Favreau and Lucasfilm co-head Dave Filoni, The Mandalorian and Grogu features Pedro Pascal (mostly just his voice), Jeremy Allen White (just his voice), Martin Scorsese (just his voice), and, bless her, the great Sigourney Weaver.
