‘Good American Family’ Renewed for Season 2 at Hulu, to Focus on Lorena Bobbitt Case

Hulu is bringing back “ Good American Family ” for a second season, with the show taking on an anthology format.

The second season will focus on the case of Lorena Bobbitt and her husband John Bobbitt. Series creator and executive producer Katie Robbins will return for Season 2, as will Season 1 star and executive producer Ellen Pompeo, though Pompeo is not expected to star in the second season.

The logline for Season 2 describes it as “A limited series inspired by the ripped-from-the-headlines story of Lorena and John Bobbitt, a Virginia couple who incited a media circus that treated trauma as entertainment, launched a thousand dirty jokes, and ignited a gender war.”

Along with Robbins and Pompeo, Laura Holstein executive produce under her and Pompeo’s Calamity Jane banner. Andrew Stearn also executive produces. 20th Television is the studio. Popular on Variety

“Good American Family” represented Pompeo’s first major acting role since she stepped back from “Grey’s Anatomy.” The first season was inspired by the story of Natalia Grace, a young girl with a rare form of dwarfism, who was adopted in 2010 by Kristine and Michael Barnett under the belief she was still a child.
