Apple adds another iPhone, MacBook Pro to the obsolete list

The original "notch" iPhone is now officially obsolete.

On Thursday, Apple added the iPhone X to its list of obsolete products .

Originally launched in 2017, the iPhone X was the first iPhone to feature a "notch" on top of its display, ushering in the era of modern iPhones that are nearly bezel-less on all sides, aside from a camera/sensor cutout on top.

Being on the obsolete list means that the product is no longer eligible for hardware service at Apple Stores or the company's Authorized Service Providers.

Being nearly nine years old, the iPhone X doesn't get the new versions of iOS either, so if you still use one, it's probably (definitely) time to move on and get a new phone.

That machine still rocked an Intel processor; Apple introduced the first MacBook Pro with its own silicon (the M1 chip) in 2020 and hasn't looked back since.

There's some symbolism in the iPhone X going obsolete in 2026, the year when Apple is likely to usher in another radically different phone, the foldable iPhone Ultra.

There are also rumors that Apple plans an iPhone 20 Pro with an all-glass, no-notch design for 2027, which could be the beginning of the end of iPhones with camera cutouts in their displays.
