CNN fires back at Trump White House over attacks on reporter, calls them 'beneath the office'

CNN fired back at the White House on Monday after President Donald Trump 's rapid response team took aim at CNN White House correspondent Kristen Holmes.

While Trump took questions from the Oval Office, Holmes asked him for his reaction to viral comments made by Sen.

Jon Ossoff, D-Ga., who claimed Trump would rather "build a ballroom and travel with [White House aide]" Natalie [Harp]" than do his job as president, to which Trump replied by calling him "Pee-wee Herman." The Rapid Response 47 account on X slammed Holmes for invoking Ossoff's jab, which fueled online fodder for liberal critics pushing unfounded claims of an inappropriate relationship between Trump and Harp.

TRUMP MEETS WITH TEEN LIFEGUARD AND BOY SAVED IN VIRAL OCEAN RESCUE AT OVAL OFFICE "[Holmes] is a disgraceful, humiliating embarrassment to her alleged profession," the White House -run account wrote on X.

"@POTUS hosts a hero lifeguard in the Oval Office and she uses it as an opportunity to take a cheap shot about one of President Trump's staffers.

These scumbags are the lowest of the low." "Someday, your children will come across your disgusting and inhumane question.

They will be sickened and embarrassed to have a parent be so callous and vindictive.

It’s quite troubling," the White House told Holmes.

CNN STAFFERS BRACE FOR PARAMOUNT CEO'S POTENTIAL PLAN TO LAUNCH EDITORIAL BOARD TO OVERSEE NETWORK CNN issued a statement standing behind its reporter.

"Kristen Holmes is one of the most respected and accomplished journalists covering the White House," CNN wrote.

"This afternoon, she did her job and asked the President of the United States a tough, relevant, and newsworthy question on behalf of the American people." "Public officials are free to challenge reporting they disagree with, but personal attacks on journalists for asking questions are beneath the office and inconsistent with the principles of a free press.

We stand firmly behind Kristen and reject these attacks in the strongest possible terms," the network added.

WHITE HOUSE PUSHED FOR PROTOCOL TO PRESERVE CORRESPONDENTS' CREDIBILITY AFTER TRUMP'S SECRET PLANE SWITCH The White House cited its posts in response to Fox News Digital and declined to comment further.

Trump, who held a meeting at the Oval Office with Ryder Williams — the heroic 16-year-old lifeguard who went viral last month for rescuing 10-year-old Nathaniel Rai, who was also at the White House — lashed out at Holmes in a separate exchange as she attempted to ask another question, repeatedly scolding to her, "Quiet!" "You’re very disrespectful in front of this young man.
