Hear Mac Miller’s Previously-Unreleased Song ‘Butterflies’

The Mac Miller Estate shared a new Mac Miller song, “Butterflies.” The track will appear on The Divine Feminine (10th Anniversary) , out Oct. 2, along with two other previously-unheard songs. The titles of the other new tracks have not been announced.

“Butterflies” was produced by Taylor Graves and features bass by Miller’s longtime collaborator Thundercat and trumpet by Daniel Hardaway. The hypnotic, mid-tempo number sees Miller intoning about a possible love connection: “Better drive slow/ If you wanna take a ride on the high road/ And your mind so passionate, your love what I’m after and/ That feelin’ so unfamiliar, I only imagine it/ Dream girl, you’re my make-believe girl.”

Along with the single, the estate launched a new Mac Miller website , designed in conjunction with James Musgrave and Kate Doyle for XXIX. The site is an interactive tribute to the life and work of the rapper, who died in 2018 , and features archival media contributed by friends and colleagues from throughout the years.

Miller released The Divine Feminine , his fourth LP, in 2016. It featured collaborations with Kendrick Lamar, Anderson .Paak, CeeLo Green, Ty Dolla Sign, and Ariana Grande, who notably appeared one of the album’s singles, “My Favorite Part.” The album notably received mediocre reviews. Rolling Stone wrote, “Miller’s grown-ass beats clash with his juvenile boasts (“I just eat pussy, other people need food”), so he often ends up sounding like a well-meaning kid who can’t stop putting his kicks up on the fancy furniture.”
