‘Game of Thrones: War for Westeros’ Gameplay Trailer Captures the Excitement of the Series

Raise your banners, draw your swords, and— only if you’re the Night King —raise your arms very slowly and dramatically to resurrect all your fallen warriors on the battlefield . Game of Thrones: War for Westeros has just revealed its official gameplay trailer, and it looks to bring the excitement of the HBO show to a video game realm where the Iron Throne stands empty and a whole lot of characters are rushing to fill it.

Announced in 2025 and originally slated to come out this year, PlaySide Studios now confirms the real-time strategy PC game will arrive on Steam in early 2027.

“Players will engage in epic real-time skirmish battles across the Seven Kingdoms, commanding factions and playable heroes including Robb Stark, Jon Snow, Ghost, Grey Wind, Jaime Lannister, Tywin Lannister, Daenerys Targaryen, and the Night King himself, all of whom utilize unique abilities that can shift the tide of battle,” reads a PlaySide press release.

“Forging a path to victory will require players to step into the role of a commander, making key decisions in training units, securing resources, constructing buildings, and claiming territory from opposing forces. Each faction offers asymmetric strategies, with unique armies, buildings, mechanics, and playstyles shaped by their identity in the Game of Thrones series. Players must harness these distinct strengths, deploy powerful heroes, and adapt their approach to outplay, outmaneuver, and defeat their enemies.”

Including two different direwolves as playable characters is a nice touch, and it looks like none of War for Westeros ‘ battles will suffer from the dark, murky cinematography that often plagued the TV show’s big action set pieces.

Beta access for Game of Thrones: War for Westeros will be opening up later this year; you can sign up here to find out more.
