Man arrested after 17-year-old killed in Riverside County shooting

A 52-year-old Moreno Valley man has been arrested as a suspect in the shooting death of a 17-year-old, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said Saturday.

Officers arrested Manuel Gomez on Friday in the 13000 block of Glorybower Street, where a shooting was reported Thursday that resulted in the death of a 17-year-old Moreno Valley resident and injuries to an 18-year-old.

Deputies from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station responded Thursday evening to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon, according to the sheriff’s department. On arrival, deputies located the teens, both males, at a fire station before they were taken to a hospital.

The 18-year-old, who is also a Moreno Valley resident, is in stable condition, officials said.

“This remains an ongoing investigation, and no further information will be released at this time,” the department said in a statement.

Officials did not describe a motive, what led to the shooting or how investigators decided on Gomez as a suspect.
