US Air Force special operations forces are exploring whether they can use powered gliders to deliver supplies, including medical gear, to small teams operating beyond the reach of reliable supply lines.
During an ongoing international exercise in Iceland, Air Force Special Operations Command personnel plan to airdrop a powered glider packed with supplies to teammates on the ground.
Like similar military efforts examining aerial drones and ground robots , the unit is trying to learn how to sustain troops in future fights where conventional resupply may be too difficult or dangerous.
