Australian Attorney Marcus Walkom Unveils Walkom Entertainment Lawyers

Billboard ·

BRISBANE, Australia – Former Media Arts Lawyers partner Marcus Walkom launches Walkom Entertainment Lawyers, the veteran attorney’s independent music and entertainment law practice.

Headquartered in Brisbane, Walkom Entertainment Lawyers opens for business with a list of clients including Wolfmother , The Teskey Brothers, Tigerlily , The Amity Affliction, Electric Fields, Daine, Dan Gorringe, Drax Project, Young Franco, Untitled Group, King Stingray, Hollow Coves, and a raft of record labels, distributors, publishers, promoters, festivals, managers, industry bodies, and digitally native creators across Australasia and international markets.

Walkom was instrumental in BMG’s acquisition of Andrew Stockdale’s publishing and recorded music royalties and neighboring rights for Wolfmother, announced earlier this month.

“Music careers are commercial businesses, and every stage of an artist’s journey hinges on strategic dealmaking—whether that’s with a label, distributor, publisher, manager, promoter, or brand,” comments Walkom, founder and principal of the new firm.

“Our role is to ensure our clients navigate these arrangements from a position of real strength and clarity, making informed decisions that build sustainable, long-term careers.” Joining Walkom is lawyer Lauren Holyoak , also a performing musician and self-managed artist.

Although headquartered in Queensland, Walkom boasts networks across the United States, United Kingdom, Europe, and APAC, its vision to supports rightsholders, talent, and creative enterprises at every level.

Artist representation and rights negotiations are front and center for Walkom Entertainment Lawyers’ activities, and the firm will be active in advising record labels, distributors, music publishers, management companies, promoters, festivals and digitally native creators on broader commercial and corporate matters, emerging AI frameworks, IP monetisation and rights protection, and strategic industry issues.

“We’re building a genuinely global, highly connected practice that sits right at the heart of the music industry,” he continues, “close to the artists, the rightsholders, and the executives doing the deals across key territories, while offering the commercial agility needed for everything from a debut release deal through to major catalogue acquisitions.” Walkom starts his own business following the closure in July of Media Arts Lawyers , a business he joined in 2021, before opening its Brisbane branch the following year.

Separately, he founded and runs We Are Golden, a management company and record label with a focus on nurturing and developing emerging talent, and he serves on the board of the Association of Artist Managers (AAM) and the Gold Coast Music Alliance (GCMA).
