Hideo Kojima claims Sony dumped him in a Zoom call with no reason

Hideo Kojima has spoken about his shocking split with Sony, revealing that the company not only ended their long-running partnership over a Zoom call, but it also gave no reason for doing so.

Though the lauded video game auteur said his mind "went blank" in shock when he was told the news, he insisted that he doesn't hold any grudge.

According to Kojima, Sony did not provide a reason for its decision.

"We couldn’t understand it," Kojima told The Washington Post .

"[Former SIE CEO] Jim Ryan had already retired, but I thought this was a project that Sony Interactive Entertainment and I had agreed to team up on and make together....

I didn't think Physint would be on the list of being cancelled." Kojima Productions' debut game Death Stranding and sequel Death Stranding 2: On the Beach were both Sony PlayStation exclusive titles at launch.

The studio has since been working on horror game OD in collaboration with Jordan Peele, as well as stealth action game Physint featuring Bill Skarsgård.

However, while OD was being made in partnership with Microsoft's XBox , Sony's decision to pull its support placed Kojima's entire studio in jeopardy.

"I didn’t have any anger or sadness," said Kojima, speaking on his reaction to the news.

"I was just thinking, 'What should I do?' It’s a big problem for us and I couldn’t tell staff at the time….
