MAGA-Coded ‘60 Minutes’ Humiliated by Ratings Mess
Mark Seliger/60 Minutes/CBS The revamped 60 Minutes premiered to its smallest audience in a quarter-century.
The once-storied news program opened Sunday night to an audience of about 7.7 million, according to preliminary Nielsen ratings, marking the lowest viewership for the newsmagazine’s season opener since at least the turn of the century.
The CBS staple returns for its 59th season under the leadership of CBS News Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss , a former conservative blogger with no previous experience running a television newsroom, and tech columnist-turned-executive producer Nick Bilton .
The premiere comes after Weiss, who has been accused of attempting to interfere with the show on behalf of the Trump administration, gutted the staff in favor of a rightward shift.
A CBS spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Beast.
