Will Cleary's 1st goal in MLS helps Charlotte beat DC United 3-1

Rookie Will Cleary scored his first goal in MLS, David Schnegg and Pep Biel each added a goal, and Charlotte FC beat D.C. United 3-1

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Rookie Will Cleary scored his first goal in MLS, David Schnegg and Pep Biel each added a goal, and Charlotte FC beat D.C. United 3-1 on Saturday night.

Cleary, at the front post, headed home a corner kick played in by Biel to give Charlotte a 2-1 lead in the 66th minute.

Schnegg put away the rebound of a header by Morrison Agyemang to make it 1-1 in the 64th and Biel capped the scoring in the 77th minute.

Louis Munteanu opened the scoring in the 55th minute and Sean Johnson had two saves for D.C. United.

Charlotte had 61% possession, but was outshot 10-4, in the scoreless first half.
