MapQuest just found a route to No. 1 on the App Store

For anyone who remembers printing MapQuest directions before a road trip, the navigation service may feel like something that belongs in the glove compartment of internet history.

Apparently, all it took for a comeback was President Donald Trump starting yet another dispute over what to call a body of water.

Lake Ontario, which sits between New York and the Canadian province of Ontario, became the latest front in Trump’s trade war with Canada.

On Aug.

27, Trump signed an executive order directing federal agencies to rename Lake Ontario "Lake America" within 30 days.

Why? Trump said Canada had been "ripping us off for a long time on trade." MapQuest refused to go along, and users apparently liked that answer: The 30-year-old service shot to No.

1 among free apps in Apple’s U.S. and Canadian App Stores.

" We’re not changing it ," the company wrote on X, along with other defiant posts.
