ICE shooting rocks Austin as Democrat demands bodycam video, independent probe

A Democratic congressman is demanding answers after claiming an ICE officer shot someone during a Sunday morning operation in Austin, Texas .

Austin city leaders will address what the city described as an "Immigration and Customs Enforcement shooting" during a 4 p.m. news conference Sunday at Austin City Hall.

Mayor Kirk Watson, Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis and Austin-Travis County EMS Chief Robert Luckritz are scheduled to speak about the incident.

The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed to FOX 7 Austin that U.S.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement was handling an investigation in the 7000 block of West Anderson Lane but did not say whether anyone was shot or injured.

"ICE investigation confirmed in the 7000 block of West Anderson, ICE is handling investigation," a DPS public information officer told the outlet. 'SQUAD' MEMBER CALLS DHS 'GREATEST THREAT TO OUR SAFETY' AFTER ICE-INVOLVED SHOOTING Rep.

Greg Casar, D-Texas, claimed in a post on X that "ICE has shot a person in Austin this morning" and called for a full, independent investigation and the immediate release of body-camera footage.

"Over and over, ICE has shot people and then lied about what happened," Casar wrote.

"We will demand truth, transparency and accountability." ICE AGENTS IN FATAL HOUSTON SHOOTING WERE NOT WEARING BODY CAMERAS, SOURCES SAY Authorities have not released details of the shooting.

The Austin investigation comes amid heightened tensions over federal immigration enforcement operations across the country.

Newark Mayor Ras Baraka later criticized the tactics used by state troopers sent to secure the facility, which had become the focus of frequent demonstrations.

Federal immigration operations also drew national scrutiny in Minnesota following the fatal shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis.

Good was killed by an ICE agent in early January after authorities said she tried to use her vehicle to run over federal officers, while Pretti was fatally shot by a U.S.
