Just the word, Kindle, has become shorthand for leading e-reader tech — so much so that it’s easy to forget that there are alternatives available.

The price hikes are apparently related to what’s been dubbed RAMageddon , an AI-driven tech inflation.

Some Kindles have increased by up to $50.
