The Origin of the Silos on ‘Silo’ Is Revealed [Exclusive]

For over two and a half seasons, fans of the show Silo have all been asking one question: Where did the silos come from? Well, in this week’s episode, “Gray Goo,” we find out. We don’t find out everything, but we find out way more than we’ve known before.

As you may have guessed from the trajectory of the last few episodes, the silos have everything to do with trillionaire (and nothing at all like Elon Musk character) Per Stensen (Colin Hanks) and Senator Rosalind Thurman (Laura Innes), who have slowly worked Daniel (Ashley Zukerman) and Helen (Jessica Henwick) into the conversation. A conversation you can watch a clip of exclusively here on io9.

If you remember, Daniel has a background in drilling, so the fact that Thurman and Stensen want to bring him in makes sense. He’s already got opinions on it. Expensive ones. What does not yet make sense is why the silos are being built in the first place. The people who populate them are referred to as “seeds” here. “Seeds” for the future of humanity? What’s the imminent danger? How did this get started?

So yeah, for over two and a half seasons, Silo fans have been asking where the silos come from, and this week, we’ll get a much clearer picture. But fans have also been asking about a billion other questions too, especially with this season’s dual timelines. Questions that will start to be answered not just this week, but in the next two weeks as the third and penultimate season comes to a close with episodes nine and 10.

Have you been enjoying Silo so far this season? Which storyline have you liked more? Do you think this season will end in a satisfying way? Let us know below, and we’ll have more soon.
