Amazon drone delivery is coming to nearly 500 cities

Amazon wants to make waiting for a package feel almost old-fashioned.

Its Prime Air drone delivery service is gearing up for a major expansion, with plans to reach nearly 500 U.S. cities and towns by the end of 2026.

For some shoppers, that could mean getting an eligible Amazon order dropped at home in as fast as 30 minutes.

That is a huge jump from where things stand today.

Amazon currently operates Prime Air from 11 U.S. locations across 10 metro areas, and the company says its drones have already delivered hundreds of thousands of packages this year.

There is one detail worth keeping in mind when you hear that 500-city figure.

Amazon is talking about communities served, rather than 500 individual drone hubs.

Each Prime Air site can cover about 175 square miles, allowing one launch location to reach several nearby cities and towns.

So, could one of these drones soon be heading toward your neighborhood? Here's where Prime Air is available now, what it costs and what you should know before choosing drone delivery at checkout.
