Georgia Tech captain Kyle Efford announces medical retirement from football: 'Nothing left in the tank'

Georgia Tech standout linebacker Kyle Efford’s playing career is over, but his leadership role with the Yellow Jackets will continue.

Efford announced Tuesday that he is medically retiring from football but will remain a visible presence within the program, retaining his role as a team captain while taking on player-coach responsibilities for the rest of the season.

Efford aggravated his surgically repaired shoulder during a Week 2 matchup against Tennessee.

He led the Yellow Jackets in tackles in each of the past three seasons and finishes his college football career with 250 tackles.

"Damage that will continue to remind me of the sport that I love many years down the road.

And while my heart and mind still have so much more to give, I've reached a point where I have to start thinking about the life I have ahead of me." Efford acknowledged that retirement was not the ending he envisioned but said he walks away without regrets.

"This isn't how I imagined my football career coming to an end, but I am at peace.

I can say with complete confidence that I gave this game every single piece of me.

There is nothing left in the tank, and there are no regrets in my heart." THE CRAIG CARTON SHOW–UNFILTERED, UNAPOLOGETIC AND UNMISSABLE.
