Jacob Chase to Direct ‘Sleepover’ for Blumhouse Atomic Monster; Universal Sets 2027 Release

Jacob Chase is packing his sleeping bag. The filmmaker is staying in the Blumhouse Atomic Monster business, and will direct Sleepover for the company after helming last weekend’s Insidious: Out of the Further . The project is moving fast, with Universal setting an Oct. 8, 2028 release date for the movie.

Chase co-wrote the script with Night Swim filmmaker Bryce McGuire. The plot is being kept under wraps, but is described as the “quintessential sleepover nightmare” and is based on an original short story by McGuire.

The announcement comes after Out of the Further opened to $25.3 million domestically, a solid start for the sixth installment of the franchise. He’s been in the Blumhouse Atomic Monster business for several years, developing various properties before Out of the Further emerged. Cinescape Entertainment is behind Sleepover , working with Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Universal. Jason Blum is producing w,th Chase, McGuire, and Bea Sequeira serve as executive producers. Lilly Tyson oversees the project for Blumhouse Atomic Monster.

Chase recently told The Hollywood Reporter he took a personal approach to Out of the Further , even though it was the latest installment in a big franchise. Said the filmmaker: “Look, I know it’s the sixth Insidious movie. Who cares? It’s just a franchise movie . But we didn’t treat it that way. I really treated Out of the Further like I was trying to make the Citizen Kane of Insidious movies, and it felt that way on set.”

Chase is repped by CAA, Gang Tyre, and The Initiative Group. McGuire is repped by Gersh and Ziffren Brittenham.
