Katt Williams Expands PGA Tour Role for Championship — But It’s Not His Ultimate Golf Goal (Exclusive)

Katt Williams is taking his microphone to the golf course. The stand-up comic will just have to be a little quieter inside the ropes than he is on stage.

Williams, 54, will return as an on-course correspondent for the Thursday and Friday rounds of the PGA Tour ‘s Tour Championship at Atlanta’s East Lake Golf Club — the final event of the 2026 FedExCup Playoffs — airing and and streaming on ESPN, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. He and co-host/mentor Michael Collins will follow each round’s’ “marquee group,” offering commentary over the first 36 holes of competition. The gig is “a joy,” Williams tells THR — but it is not his ultimate golf goal. The man dreams big.

As Williams’ own golf game improves — he credits a strong short game and driver consistency — Williams says he has been taking home “hardware” from various pro-am tourneys. He wants to drop that “-am” suffix.

“I think I still have the ability — and the age — to still play professionally if I do get a few things taken care of. If that happens, then the rest of it will open up for me pretty organically,” Williams said. “There’s no other sport you could ever even dream such a thing, you know?”

Williams believes the math is in his favor. Since we last spoke, Williams has chopped eight strokes off of his handicap. He’s now an 11, and looking to wipe out another eight just as swiftly.

“I was able to do that [with] just a couple adjustments,” he said. “I was trying to get as good as I could get before I started taking lessons, which are going to guarantee to get me better.”

For know, Katt is pouncing at the opportunity to watch the pros up close and personal — and to whisper-talk about their games.

“As a fan, you know how important a good commentator-slash-narrator is for this thing at their home,” Williams said. “The great ones really bridge that gap, and so that’s what I’m gonna be doing.”

Also as a fan and a commentator, Williams says he doesn’t have a rooting interest in who plays in the marquee group he and Collins will shadow. But as a comic…

“I guess preferably just as a comedian and as a writer, one really great guy and somebody stinking up the place [would be great],” he said. “I would love a -6 with a +6.”

This week’s big tournament marks Williams’ third time in an on-air role with the PGA Tour. Previously, he served as a special guest at the 2024 Tour Championship; Williams commentated again at the 2025 FedEx St. Jude Championship.

PGA Tour Live , which will feature Williams’ group, tees off on the ESPN app at 11 a.m. ET on Thursday and Friday.
