It’s not your imagination — dating has gotten way more combative lately

Lisa Marie Wilson matched with a man on a dating app who claimed to be 5-foot-10 and to live on the beach.

Only one of those facts turned out to be true.

When she showed up to the date, Wilson observed that she and her date were the same height — and she isn’t 5-foot-10.

She wasn’t planning to mention it, but her date did: “He told me I wasn’t really 5 ‘9”,” Wilson, a 51-year-old author, told Vox.

Even though he accused her of lying about her height before he even said hello, Wilson told Vox she still gave the man the benefit of the doubt.

But as they continued on with their planned walk along the beach, Wilson sensed her date was suspicious of her.

“The whole time it was like he was an investigative reporter asking me questions, but kind of like if you were interviewing someone you didn’t like,” she said.

By the end of the date, Wilson was sure she didn’t want to see this guy again, so she turned down his offer to give her a massage and left.

She couldn’t get past his accusatory comment about her height.

“I was like, ‘I’m not a liar,’” Wilson said.

“But I think he was — because he obviously wasn’t as tall as he was saying he was.” (To add insult to injury, Wilson’s date emailed her the next day breaking things off with her .) Why I reported this These days, I’ve noticed an outright antagonism among singles, online and off.

They want to find love, but have been so burned by past relationships (or situationships) that they have a pessimistic view of dating.

As a result, some singles cast blanket judgments about the very people with whom they hope to foster a relationship: they’re all bad.
