Slate Pears Game 366: Aug. 15, 2026
Happy one-year anniversary, Pears! If I may: When Slate offered me the chance to make this game, I could never have declined, and though it’s been a test of endurance to make my Pears deadline every day, I know I’ve succeeded each time I see that readers have beelined to the game for yet another day. Making the game has increased my vocabulary—indeed I’ve had to become a kind of abecedarian. I’ve heard anecdote after anecdote from players about how they enjoy Pears, and that kind of story is the only kind of accolade I need. Honestly Slate’s willingness to pay me to make this game goes beyond beneficence and suggests a kind of decadence for which I’ll be grateful until I reach my deathbed.
However, I did not love the time I was basically cancelled for including a one-word Pear, which was the word wren . Get a grip! The death threats were not necessary!
The complete Pears archive is now open! Slate Plus members can play a year’s worth of Pears anytime. It’s an all-you-can-eat Pears buffet!
