'No survivors' after plane with 8 aboard crashes in Alaska: Officials

A small plane with eight people aboard crashed in a remote part of western Alaska on Thursday, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The Cessna 441, which took off from Anchorage earlier Thursday crashed about 12:15 p.m. local time, according to the FAA.

The plane was headed to the Cape Newenham Long Range Radar site, according to the FAA. The plane crashed west of the radar site's airport, the FAA said.

There was no immediate word on the conditions of anyone aboard the flight.

In a social media post, Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy said the Alaska National Guard was conducting a search and rescue operation.

"I join Alaskans in offering condolences as we learn of the plane crash in Cape Newenham today," Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski said in a social media post, identifying the flight as one operated by Security Aviation, which offers charter flights throughout Alaska.

"I’ve traveled extensively with Security Aviation throughout Alaska, and have met many of their experienced pilots," Murkowski said. "I appreciate the U.S. Coast Guard, NTSB, Alaska State Troopers, and the Rescue Coordination Center for responding to the site. Alaska is praying for those on board, their loved ones, and the team at Security Aviation."

In a social media statement, Rep. Nick Begich said: "This is incredibly difficult news for many Alaskans, especially those in our close-knit aviation community. Dharna and I join Alaskans across our state in praying for everyone affected and the entire Security Aviation family."
