Over 1000 suspects have been arrested for various offences during police-led Operation Shanela 2 across Mpumalanga over the weekend.

The police operation focused on priority crimes including murder, rape, robbery, illegal possession of firearms, drug-related offences, illicit mining, among others.

Police spokesperson, Jabu Ndubane, says several illicit items were also seized during these operations.

“Some of the activities conducted during the operation included roadblocks, vehicle control points, stop-and-searches and high-visibility patrols.
