Atteridgeville residents fed up with ongoing sewage system failures
Some members of the community of Extension 19 in Atteridgeville , west of Pretoria, says they are tired of asking for their sewage system to be fixed.
Some homes have sewage flowing into the streets, creating what residents say is a serious health hazard.
They allege the problem has been ongoing since 2017, when the City of Tshwane moved them to the area.
SABC News has visited the area ahead of the local government elections in November.
Community leader William Phala says residents will remember how they were treated when it is time to vote.
“No, we are not giving up. We are going to fight. The local government elections are coming. They are not going to get what they want from the community of Extension 19 as long as we are still living in these types of situations. It means that whoever is a political party who is going to mislead this community I’m ready . They are not going to mislead this community when I’m still alive, they can mislead them when I’m dead.”
