33 million ballots needed to accommodate ConCourt ruling: IEC
The Electoral Commission (IEC) says 33 million ballots have to be produced to accommodate the extension of the Constitutional Court judgment to the other political parties.
The IEC announced that 32 political parties will be allowed to submit their candidate list following Thursday’s Constitutional Court judgment in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, regarding the ANC candidates list.
Briefing the media in Pretoria, IEC Chairperson Mosotho Moepya says the Commission does not anticipate these developments will affect the November 4th election date.
“33 million ballots have to be produced to accommodate the extension of the judicial injunction.
Of this new total requirement, 6.6 million ballots had not been printed.
This affects six municipalities whose ballots were affected by the appeal of the ANC that was before the Constitutional Court.
The Commission held back from commencing with printing of the ballots until the Constitutional Court had made a ruling on this matter.” Live Today| Media Briefing IEC Chairperson, Commissioner Mosotho Moepya will brief the media and the public on the outcome of the Constitutional Court judgment and its implications for the Commission.
