KZN Agri nears 80% Foot-and-Mouth vaccination goal
The KwaZulu-Natal Agriculture Department says its on track to reach its target of vaccinating 80% of the estimated 2.5 million cattle in the province against Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) .
The province is one of the worst affected provinces in the outbreak that started in 2021.
It has so far vaccinated about 1.7 million cattle, with two more districts to go.
KZN Agriculture MEC Thembeni KaMadlopha-Mthethwa says, “We will treat FMD as if its still at it’s highest peak, we will never stop treating FMD as enemy number one in this province.” KaMadlopha-Mthethwa says, “We will make sure that we still stock vaccine, we still have staff, we still have name tags, we still look at animal movement because we do not want to see the previous scenario coming to this province again.” RELATED VIDEO | Agriculture minister reiterates importance of collaboration between govt, private sector in fighting FMD:
