City of Joburg to prioritise Eskom payments: Morero
Johannesburg’s Executive Mayor, Dada Morero, says the city will now focus on maintaining payments to Eskom , reducing electricity losses and investing in critical infrastructure.
He was speaking after CityPower and the City of Johannesburg fully settled their accumulated overdue electricity debt of R5.25 billion that was owed to Eskom .
Morero says there is progress.
“I want to assure all our customers and residents that moving forward, we’ll ensure that our current account is paid on time and in full, so as to guarantee continuous supply of electricity to all our residents.
And this will also help us, as part of our investment into electricity infrastructure, to ensure future supply is protected and guaranteed for our residents,” he says.
Today, the City of Johannesburg has settled, in full, the R5.25 billion overdue electricity debt to Eskom.
