Between Meetings | Proteas star Sinalo Jafta opens up about her journey to sobriety

Proteas wicketkeeper Sinalo Jafta has reflected on a journey that has taken her from being inspired to take up the game after watching Makhaya Ntini on TV to receiving an award named after the cricket legend.

Jafta tells Sowetan about the full-circle moment of receiving the Makhaya Ntini Power of Cricket Award, the highs and lows of her cricket career, her journey to sobriety and the lessons she has learnt along the way.

Former Sowetan photographer Veli Nhlapo was given his flowers by sport, arts and culture minister Gayton McKenzie during the SA Sports Awards on Sunday night when he was handed the Steve Tshwete Lifetime Award.

Nhlapo earned much respect from his colleagues, politicians, entertainers and the sporting community throughout his working career. He was recognised alongside Siya Vabaza-Booi and Selwyn Nathan during the awards ceremony on Sunday night.

The DJ — real name Tlou Cleopas Monyepao — hosted The Eskhaleni Party after joining the station in April 2024 and presented his last show on Saturday.
