A crowd of 62,000 spectators is expected at the DHL Stadium this Saturday.

As Cape Town prepares to welcome rugby’s greatest rivalry test match this coming weekend at the DHL Stadium, significant traffic volumes should be expected.

The Springboks will be playing the All Blacks, and thousands of rugby supporters are expected to descend on the Mother City.

In what has been categorised as one of the biggest sporting events in Cape Town, a comprehensive transport management plan has been developed to manage the movement of spectators to and from the stadium precinct.

The City of Cape Town said its safety and security services are working alongside the event organiser SA Rugby and SAPS to ensure a safe and seamless experience for residents, visitors, and rugby fans.

The match is sold out, with a capacity crowd of 62,000 expected for the 5.10pm kick-off on Saturday, August 29.

“With a full house at the stadium and thousands of people expected in and around the CBD and Green Point, we anticipate significant congestion on our roads on match day. A lot of planning has gone into managing the movement of spectators and traffic,” Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith, said.

He encouraged supporters to plan their journeys early, make use of the available shuttle services where possible, and arrive with plenty of time to spare.

“Our City services will work alongside SAPS to manage the event and ensure a safe, well-managed and memorable experience for all,” Smith said.

The MyCiTi shuttle will operate from five locations: Civic Centre, Thibault Square, CTICC, UCT and Bellville Velodrome from 11.30am, ahead of stadium gates opening at 12pm.

The shuttle will operate on a dedicated coned-off bus lane, ensuring fans skip the traffic queue.

Following the match, the last return shuttle from the stadium to the designated pick-up points will depart at 10.30pm.

Parking in and around the stadium is limited, but there is sufficient parking in the CBD for those planning to use the shuttle or take the FanWalk to Green Point.

This includes the Civic Centre, where the City of Cape Town will make 475 free parking bays available to ticketed rugby fans on a first-come, first-served basis from 11am.
