Mchunu denies allegations of plot to throw Mkhwanazi ‘under the bus’
Suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has in a statement on Monday denied allegations that place him at the center of an alleged plot to throw KwaZulu-Natal (KZN police chief, Lt-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi under the bus over police shootings in KZN.
This after Lt-Colonel Deena Govender, who is accused of being commissioned to kill Bevan Loftus under the guise of a legitimate operation, testified that a meeting took place with an alleged political fixer on the 20th of August 2026 where Mchunu was called and he allegedly told Govender to tell the Commission that he gets his instructions from Mkhwanazi.
Mchunu says that the allegation is made without any evidence and he rejects it “with the contempt it deserves”.
Mchunu adds that he respects the work of the Commission and that it must not be deterred by what he describes as “opportunistic allegations”.
