State questions Mncube over cellphone use the day Meyiwa was killed

The state is continuing its cross-examination of accused number three, Mthobisi Mncube, in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial at the High Court in Pretoria.

The state is focusing on the cellphone Mncube used on the day former Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa was shot and killed in October 2014.

Mncube maintains that he was using a Samsung cellphone on the day of the murder but says he cannot recall exactly when he changed devices.

State prosecutor Ronnie Sibanda put it to Mncube that his cellphone number was linked to different devices, suggesting that he may have changed phones around the time of the murder.

Referring to the cellphone records, Sibanda asked Mncube whether he could see a change from a Nokia X102 to a Samsung GTE 2220.

Mncube agreed that the records showed different devices but said he could not recall exactly when he changed phones.

“I don’t know exactly the day I changed the cellphone, but since the numbers are not the same, it means that I’ve changed,” Mncube said. -Reporting by Lerato Makola VIDEO| Senzo Meyiwa Murder Trial | 19 October 2026:
