Mashatile to address FEDUSA’s 8th National Congress

SABC News ·

Deputy President Paul Mashatile is expected to deliver the keynote address at the Federation of Unions of South Africa (FEDUSA)’s 8th National Congress, which gets underway on Wednesday.

Mashatile will stand in for President Cyril Ramaphosa as the three-day gathering opens under the theme ‘Reclaiming and Organising the Future: Workers Dignity, Power, and Justice through Conscious Unionism in an Age of Crisis’.

The federation says the gathering comes as workers face rising living costs and pressure on household incomes.

FEDUSA’s General Secretary Riefdah Ajam says, “South African workers need confidence that government is serious about tackling issues such as unemployment, the rising cost of living, energy affordability, infrastructure delivery, economic growth, and tackling the scourge of GBV- amongst many other matters here.” “Particularly so, because … our members were in actual fact victims of the recent spate of murders that happened in Kempton Park.

And we certainly hope that the DP [Deputy President] will outline some practical actions that will create jobs, strengthen social dialogue, and also economic growth that translates into tangible benefits,” adds Ajam.
