SAFTII urges stronger by-laws amid rising grave vandalism
The Southern Africa Funerals and Tombstones Industry Institute (SAFTII) has called on local government authorities to strengthen by-laws across the country.
It says it’s concerned about the rise in grave vandalism.
The institute will launch the SAFTII Gravesite Watch next Tuesday in response to the crisis.
Spokesperson for SAFTII, Mpilo Khodi, says various stakeholders need to come together to curb the vandalism.
“We are hoping we’re stretching out our hand to government, city parks, we are stretching out to the mayor, because this thing, we cannot do it on our own.
Even though we are an institute with different stakeholders, with different undertakers, with their bylaws, we need them to strengthen them a little bit,” says Khodi.
