'Miracle': Holy communion items, Bibles untouched in New Apostolic Church building blaze

Flames engulf the New Apostolic Church’s Towerby building in Johannesburg South District on Tuesday. The cause of the blaze is still being investigated.

The New Apostolic Church Towerby in Johannesburg South District is hailing a miracle after holy communion chalices and bibles were all left untouched when the church burned down this week.

Nothing else could be salvaged from the blaze. The church caught fire on Tuesday, August 25. N o injuries were reported and it is not clear yet how the fire started.

“It is with a heavy heart that we have to inform you of our Towerby church building that was unfortunately completely destroyed this afternoon due to a fire," t he church said in a statement.

“Miraculously the sacristy suffered minor damage and the holy communion chalices and the holy bibles were all unscathed.”

Two New Apostolic Church congregants hold communion chalices and Bibles that remained undamaged after a fire destroyed the church’s Towerby building in Johannesburg South District on Tuesday.

The church said no one was injured in the incident, and that a ll planned congregational activities for this week were cancelled.

“However, the leadership team is in the process of making the necessary arrangements for this coming Sunday's divine service with the Apostle, and we will communicate the plan once it is confirmed.

“Let us please unite in prayer with us as a congregation and also for our District Apostle, who will decide on the best way forward for housing our congregation,” the church added.
