Vlamo restaurant opens case after viral video of man threatening women
A video of a man threatening women in a bathroom of a restaurant in Sandton has gone viral.
Vlamo restaurant has confirmed that a formal case has been opened with the South African Police Service following the incident in which a man was filmed threatening women inside the Sandton establishment .
The restaurant said its team and the affected women reported the incident to SAPS at midday on September 19, 2026, and that SAPS issued a case number.
The development comes after footage from the Sandton restaurant spread rapidly across social media, showing the man confronting women inside the ladies’ bathroom and making threats against them.
Vlamo said it is now cooperating fully with the authorities and the women involved will provide relevant information and footage to assist with the investigation.
“The affected parties will provide all relevant information, footage and assistance required to support the investigation and process going forward to bring the perpetrator to justice,” the restaurant said in its latest statement.
Vlamo has also moved to correct claims made by the man during the confrontation that he owned the restaurant.
The restaurant said the individual seen in the video is not its owner, an employee or someone with any ownership or management role at the establishment.
“We must state clearly that the individual shown in the video is NOT the owner of the restaurant or employee and has NO ownership or management role at the establishment,” Vlamo said.
The clarification follows footage in which the man is heard claiming that he could buy and own the restaurant and describing himself as wealthy.
He is also heard threatening the women, including saying: “I’ll murder you now and walk.”
In another part of the video, he says: “I’ll put a bullet in all of you.”
Vlamo said it would also introduce more visible security at the restaurant following the incident.
“Going forward, visible security personnel will be present on the premises to further maintain a safe environment for all our guests and staff,” the restaurant said.
