Godongwana will address concerns around municipal funding: Ramaphosa

ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa says Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana will address concerns around municipal funding in Wednesday’s Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS).

Ramaphosa says government is considering attaching conditions to the equitable share funding transferred to municipalities .

He was speaking during the party’s election campaign in Daveyton, Ekurhuleni.

His comments follow concerns that some municipalities are not using public funds for their intended purposes.

“When the Minister of Finance, tomorrow when he delivers the Medium-Term Policy Budget Statement, we will address this.

We will address precisely this and say; how best do we deal with it going forward? And how best do we deal with the equitable share? Do we attach conditions to how that funding will be utilized? Because at national level, there are a number of other issues that constrain the utilization of the money that should be delivered to local government.”
