Sibiya back in court after damning recording was played

The lengthy bail application of former Deputy National Police Commissioner, Shadrack Sibiya, is expected to continue on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the Randburg Magistrate’s Court in Johannesburg heard allegations against the 59-year-old, implicating him in unlawful activities and alleged close ties with the criminal underworld.

Sibiya was arrested last month in Sandton and faces charges, including the alleged sexual grooming of a 16-year-old girl, rape, human trafficking and the contravention of the Firearms Control Act.

The allegations were made during a twenty-five-minute audio clip of a conversation between the complainant, ‘Mr M’ – who’s also the father of the 16-year-old girl and businessman Serge Cabonge.

Investigating Officer Sergeant Ndlovu told the court that the audio clip gave content to the affidavit provided by Mrs Sizakele Dlamini – who is Sibiya’s wife.

“Your Worship, I was ascertaining the affidavit provided by Mrs Dlamini and all the attachments that the defence has provided, as well as to ascertain if ‘Mr M’ has ever averted the withdrawal of the case.

So it’s during the obtaining of that affidavit that he explained This is my conversation, and I do confirm what is attached by the defence is indeed correct and was sent by myself to Mrs Dlamini.” “Your Worship, the defence did not provide this voice note, and I did have a conversation with Mr Rashaad Moosa, who indicated that he cannot avail the voice note because it was not submitted by the defence.

It is only being submitted because it has been confirmed by ‘Mr M’.

So it gives content to the affidavit provided by Mrs Dlamini,” explains Ndlovu.

The video below discusses Sibiya’s bail proceedings:
