Uyinene Foundation calls on govt to do more to fight GBV
The Uyinene Mrwetyana Foundation has called on the government to do more to fight gender-based violence . The foundation together with the University of Cape Town held the annual remembrance walk for Uyinene Mrwetyana in Main Road between Claremont and the University of Cape Town.
In August 2019, Uyinene was raped and murdered at the Clareinch Post Office in Claremont.
“It’s really frustrating. I am worried it looks like the government does not see any urgency in this matter, but having said that, we will keep on pushing until there are zero cases of gender-based violence in this country,” says Co-founder of the foundation and Uyinene’s mother, Nomangwane Mrwetyana.
