Breakthrough in Algoa Park: Murder suspect linked to attempted murder

Police arrest a suspect arrested a 20-year-old suspect in Algoa Park in connection with a murder.

In Algoa Park, the Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB) District Intervention Task Team achieved a breakthrough in an attempted murder case by connecting a 20-year-old suspect , already under arrest for murder, to the attempted shooting of a 42-year-old man.

Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg said: “The attempted murder incident occurred on June 26, 2026, on Ysterhout Street, Algoa Park. It is alleged that the victim was walking along the street when he heard someone calling out to him.”

“The suspect allegedly ran towards him and fired several shots in his direction. Fortunately, the victim was not injured, and the suspect fled the scene in the direction of Missionvale,” she added.

Detectives initiated an attempted murder investigation following the incident. As inquiries progressed, authorities identified 20-year-old Siya Lloyd as the suspect.

The NMB District Intervention Task Team’s investigation subsequently linked Lloyd to the attempted murder case, resulting in the additional charge being placed before the court.

Lloyd was already in custody for the August 7, 2026, murder of Ruwayne Rossouw, which also took place on Ysterhout Street.

Janse Van Rensburg stated that 24-year-old Ruwayne Rossouw died at Livingstone Hospital from multiple gunshot wounds after an unidentified gunman from Missionvale shot him while he sat on a sidewalk.

During the incident, another person fired at the suspect, who then fled back toward Missionvale in an unidentified vehicle.

Lloyd appeared at the New Brighton Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder and attempted murder.

The matter was remanded to September 1, 2026, for a formal bail application.
