Steve Biko Hospital puts measures in place for planned power outage
The Gauteng Department of Health says it has put in place contingency measures at the Steve Biko Academic Hospital in Pretoria to ensure the continuity of essential clinical services to protect patients during the planned four-hour power outage.
Gauteng Health spokesperson Steve Mabona confirms that the hospital will be without electricity for four hours on Saturday due to a planned electrical infrastructure repair. ‘The power interruptions will affect the hospital’s Levels eight and nine from 9am to 1pm.
The levels house critical services such as the Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
A process started early this week to identify high-risk patients in the affected areas.
A decision was taken to temporarily move them to appropriate and secure clinical areas within the hospital.” MEDIA STATEMENT || STEVE BIKO ACADEMIC HOSPITAL TO UNDERTAKE PLANNED ELECTRICAL INFRASTRUCTURE REPAIRS pic.twitter.com/RF5y9V1YMm — Gauteng Health (@GautengHealth) August 21, 2026
