Bitou deputy mayor’s gunshot case postponed to 27 October

The Deputy Mayor of the Bitou Municipality in Plettenberg Bay, Nokuzola Kolwapi, has briefly appeared in the local magistrate’s court for trial proceedings.

The matter relates to an incident where she allegedly fired a gun in public .

The case was postponed to 27 October due to the state prosecutor being ill.

Kolwapi’s charges stem from a video that went viral on social media, showing her firing several shots into the air during her son’s traditional homecoming celebration in KwaNokuthula in December last year (2025).

She has maintained that the object was a replica toy gun.

Kolwapi faces charges under the Environmental Conservation Act.
