Ferry mechanical failure delays Robben Island visitors returning to Cape Town.

Visitors travelling from Robben Island to Cape Town were left stranded for a period on Friday after the Jester ferry suffered a mechanical breakdown while returning to the Nelson Mandela Gateway.

According to Robben Island Museum , the vessel experienced a mechanical failure during the return journey, resulting in a significant delay before assistance was provided to escort the ferry safely back to harbour.

All passengers were eventually disembarked safely at the Nelson Mandela Gateway, with no injuries reported.

The museum said emergency intervention was implemented to ensure the ferry's safe return, stressing that the wellbeing of passengers remained its primary concern throughout the incident.

Authorities have not indicated how long passengers were delayed or disclosed the nature of the mechanical fault.

Robben Island Museum issued an apology to visitors affected by the disruption, acknowledging that the unexpected delay may have impacted onward travel plans and other arrangements.

The museum described the breakdown as an unforeseen mechanical failure and expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to passengers.

The museum said it is assessing the circumstances surrounding the incident and will take the necessary steps to prevent similar disruptions in future.
