Masemola has clear mandate to clean up SAPS: Ramaphosa
ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa says the mandate for reinstated National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola as he resumes his duties Monday, is to rid the police service of corrupt individuals.
Masemola was suspended in April, after being charged under the Public Finance Management Act in connection with alleged failures to adequately oversee a controversial SAPS health-services contract awarded to Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala’s Medicare24.
Ramaphosa spoke to the media in the Western Cape, where he was campaigning for the ANC in the Dullah Omar Region ahead of the November 4th local government elections.
“The fact of the matter is he is reinstated, he resumes his duties tomorrow and he will go on to work on the renewed reform process that we are determined to embark upon on the police service to clean the police service of all corruption, to clean the police service, of all those who have been doing wrong things.
That is the mandate that Commissioner General Masemola will be carrying out as his clear mandate.” RELATED VIDEO | Ramaphosa uplifts Masemola’s suspension
