Justice Minister praises whistleblower for exposing death threat to senior official
Justice Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi has praised a senior department official for standing firm against questionable contracts, after a whistleblower alerted her to an alleged threat on the official’s life.
Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development Mmamoloko Kubayi has welcomed and expressed her appreciation to a whistleblower who approached her with information about an alleged intention to kill a senior official in her department who refused to sign questionable contracts.
Kubayi’s spokesperson, Palesa Rammitlwa, said that upon receiving the information, Kubayi immediately contacted law enforcement agencies to investigate and protect the official concerned.
“The minister’s word of appreciation also goes to law enforcement agencies for acting swiftly in assessing the threat and putting mechanisms in place to protect the official and her family.”
“The matter is under investigation by law enforcement agencies and we hope for a speedy breakthrough so that this threat can be permanently eliminated.”
Meanwhile, Kubayi said the actions of the senior official, for which she is now being threatened with death, demonstrate that there are men and women of integrity in the public service who have dedicated their lives to serving the public.
“Corruption is not a victimless crime and that is what this senior official has understood.”
“She stood her ground and acted with integrity and conscientiousness, and for that we must be grateful.”
“Whistleblowers are critical to our fight against corruption because they help uncover what we would never have been able to uncover without them speaking out.”
“Thanks to this courageous whistleblower, lives were saved”, Kubayi added.
